Write Time Retreat 2026: Winter Edition

Winter invites us to rest. It gives us a pause in the start of a new year that can feel like a natural point for reflection. Many of us think of winter as cold and bleak, but it can also be a season full of potential. A time to slow down. A time to notice the quiet. A time to settle into the kind of creativity that does not ask us to perform.

The Write Time Retreat 2026: Winter Edition is built around this idea. Winter can inspire creative hibernation. When we let ourselves enter that restful space, we often return to the page in Spring with a renewed sense of purpose. This retreat asks us to embrace the season rather than push against it. To work with the rhythms of short days, fading light, and a slower pace. Join us to start the year intentionally and creatively.

There is real pleasure in creating during winter. Candles. Warmth. Stillness. A sense of freedom from pressure. When we honor those conditions, we give ourselves room to write in a way that feels grounded and mindful.

During the retreat we will do writing exercises that refresh and restore our practice. We will write and explore kindness toward our winter selves. We will look at what it means to write with limited time or limited energy. We will explore fallowness as part of the creative cycle. Dormant does not mean done. A quiet season can still hold growth. Our work might feel loose or gentle or calm. All of that counts. We’ll discover the real pleasure in creating during winter. Candles. Warmth. Stillness. A sense of freedom from pressure. When we honor those conditions, we give ourselves room to write in a way that feels grounded and mindful.

This retreat will help us pay attention to the physical world. We will write about place. We will look at process. We will think about light and dark. We will also share the hopes and wishes we carry into our winter practice. And, if it feels right, we may share some of the loose and exploratory writing we make during class.

Most of all, this retreat is about commitment. Committing to a season that asks us to slow down. Committing to ourselves through our writing. Committing to spending intentional time on the page. All with good food and hot tea and coffee, and, of course, creative companionship.
