Celebrating Our Partnership with M.M. LaFleur
Bringing people together over shared interests has always been part of our mission at Old Town Books. We keep our eyes and ears open for like-minded organizations that are just as interested as we are in building and sustaining community connections. And M.M. LaFleur’s Georgetown team proved to be a perfect fit.
What began last year as a conversation about community quickly grew into a partnership rooted in the shared values of connection, thoughtful curation, supporting women’s voices and creating a special place to bring women together.
One of our favorite parts of this collaboration is the curated selection of titles we stock at MM.LaFleur’s Georgetown showroom. Every single book on those shelves is by a non-male author and has been selected to represent a wide range of perspectives and lived experiences. From powerful memoirs to page-turning novels, the collection reflects both our bookstore’s mission and MM.LaFleur’s commitment to championing women’s stories. This fall, we’re also adding a collection of children’s books ranging from board books to young adult novels.
Our partnership has evolved since its inception last year. We’ve teamed up for photo shoots (you might recognize a few of those shots sprinkled throughout this post) and co-hosted professional headshot sessions at the store - pairing the confidence of a fresh portrait with the inspiration of a new book. We’ve also hosted book events in the Georgetown showroom, like a pop-up book club for Miranda July’s ALL FOURS and our upcoming author event to celebrate Brigid Schulte’s OVER WORK, as fun and creative ways to spark conversation among readers who might not otherwise have crossed paths.
We’re excited to keep finding ways to bring books and style together. Whether it’s a pop-up, a panel, or another book club, the energy at these events proves that people are hungry for spaces that blend professional life with literary joy.
“Our partnership with Old Town Books felt like kismet from the very first conversation--we are such fans of Ally's and our jaws almost dropped to the floor when she told us that she wore M.M. during one of her business loan signings for Old Town Books years ago,” remembers Maria Costa, M.M. LaFleur’s director of brand and integrated marketing. “In the year since our partnership launched, the Old Town Books curation at our store has truly become a neighborhood destination, and we couldn't be more thrilled about the incredible events we've hosted together, from intimate author readings to headshot events that have supported the DC community very much in need this spring and summer. We're already looking forward to launching a children's section very shortly, along with even more exciting programming that celebrates the intersection of books and community. We also have a very special live podcast recording featuring Old Town Books' own Ally Kirkpatrick coming this fall that we absolutely cannot wait to share with everyone - stay tuned.”
Looking Ahead
As we continue to grow, we’re grateful for partners like MM.LaFleur who share our belief that books aren’t just products on a shelf—they’re conversation starters, community builders, and catalysts for connection.
Next up for us is hosting award-winning journalist and author Brigid Schulte at M.M. LaFleur in Georgetown on September 16th to discuss her groundbreaking book and finding balance at work. We’re excited for this timely conversation with professional women navigating busy lives, and we couldn’t imagine a better setting than our partnership with M.M.LaFleur. Tickets are available here and include a copy of Brigid’s book OVER WORK, light refreshments and 15% off all M.M.LaFleur purchases when you shop during the event.
We can’t wait to see what stories we’ll tell together next.
